Adopt the New Islington Estate
There is a current cost of living crises and residents in the
boundary of the New Islington estate have revived back dated bills
for hundreds of pounds. The New Islington estate covers the marina
and surrounding areas. Charges are levied against the leaseholders
of the flats and houses to upkeep the area.
Manchester City council own the land and tender our the running to
plum life who charge residents the cost. The council will not adopt
the estate and are happy to allow residents to pay inflated costs
whilst still collecting council tax. The estate is privately
managed by plum life and residents have no say in the running or
cost effectively of the estate.
Prices have risen this year with 50k being spent on a caretakers
salary.
What’s more is that residents are now being backdated charges
to 2018 as the original pot of money has ran out and the council do
not want responsibility for the area yet are happy to be the
freeholder.
The estate is classed as private but very much open to the public
and residents foot the bill for damage and general use by the
public.
Manchester council should adopt the estate and save residents
hundreds of pounds in income!
