Congestion on Marshall Road, Levenshulme
Marshall Road is a narrow residential road but is subjected to extremely high levels of traffic including a significant volume of heavy duty vehicles.
It is a two-way road but cars are parked all the way up both sides, meaning that there is insufficient room for cars to pass each other. This leads to multiple incidents of significant road rage and back-logs of traffic every day, frequent damage to cars parked on the road due to collisions from vehicles trying to squeeze past each other and risks to pedestrians from reckless driving.
The road is adjacent to Alma Park Primary School and near to St Mary’s so is full of families going to and from school at the busiest traffic times and it is also a busy cut through for cyclists and people walking to and from Cringle Park, the Fallowfield loop and the train station. Currently residents have to park their vehicles on the pavement on both sides of the road, which creates additional difficulties for prams and wheelchairs.
The Levenshulme and Burnage Active Neighbourhood (LBAN) scheme say they did not consider Marshall Road for action due to it being on an active bus route but this does not take into account all of the options available for change. These problems need to be acknowledged by the council and/or LBAN with a commitment to explore potential resolutions.
