The Lord Mayor's Announcements and Special Business - - Death of Councillor Sue Murphy and Death of Former Councillor and Lord Mayor Dr Michael Taylor Additional documents: Minutes: The Lord Mayor reported the death of Councillor Sue Murphy and former Councillor and Lord Mayor Dr Michael Taylor.
The Lord Mayor announced that a tribute for Councillor Murphy would be arranged for a future Council meeting at a time when all members of the Council could be present in the Council Chamber to celebrate the life, dedication and work of Councillor Sue Murphy.
The Lord Mayor reported that Dr Michael Taylor was elected to represent Newton Heath ward in 1973 and was re-elected in 1978 and again in 1982. He served as the Chair of the Cultural Properties and Recreation Committee and served as Lord Mayor from 1983 to 1984.
The Lord Mayor invited those present to stand for a minute silence in memory of Councillor Sue Murphy and former Councillor Dr Michael Taylor. |

Election of the Lord Mayor of Manchester To elect the Lord Mayor of Manchester. Additional documents: Minutes: The Lord Mayor invited nominations for the office of Lord Mayor.
Councillor Tommy Judge was nominated by Councillor Leese and seconded by Councillor N Murphy and the Council voted by acclamation.
The Lord Mayor declared that Councillor Tommy Judge was elected Lord Mayor of Manchester.
Councillor Judge then read out the Declaration of Acceptance of Office and signed the Declaration of Acceptance of Office. The City Solicitor also signed the declaration as witness to the acceptance. The Council adjourned briefly while the new Lord Mayor was robed.
When the meeting resumed, the Lord Mayor Councillor Tommy Judgetook the Oath of Allegiance and was invested with the badge of office. |

Thanks to the Retiring Lord Mayor Additional documents: Minutes: A vote of thanks to the retiring Lord Mayor was moved by Councillor Karney.
The retiring Lord Mayor was presented with a Former Lord Mayor badge. The Lady Mayoress was also presented a commemorative badge.
Councillor Chohan then addressed the Council.
Decision
To extend the sincere thanks of the Council to Councillor Abid Chohan, the retiring Lord Mayor, for his valuable services to Manchester during his term of office, and to Azra Chohan, the retiring Lady Mayoress, for the work she had undertaken to support the retiring Lord Mayor. |
