Exclusion of the Public

The officers consider that the following item contains exempt information as provided for in the Local Government Access to Information Act and that the public interest in maintaining the exemption outweighs the public interest in disclosing the information. The Committee is recommended to agree the necessary resolutions excluding the public from the meeting during consideration of this item.

Minutes:

A recommendation was made that the public be excluded during consideration of the next item of business.

 

Decision

 

The Sub Committee agrees to exclude the public during consideration of the following item of business which involved consideration of exempt information relating to the identity of particular persons and the public interest of maintaining the exemption outweighs the public interest of disclosing the information.

Interviews for the post of Strategic Director (Children's and Education Services)

Minutes:

At its meeting on 19 February 2025, the Personnel Committee agreed the establishment of this Sub Committee to progress the recruitment and appointment to the post of Strategic Director (Children and Education Services).

 

In doing so, the Personnel Committee had also endorsed the outlined approach to the recruitment of Strategic Director (Children’s and Education Services).

 

The Sub Committee had interviewed the short-listed candidates during the day and upon conclusion of these interviews, reached a unanimous decision on the candidate who should be recommended for appointment by full Council as Manchester City Council’s permanent Strategic Director (Children’s and Education Services) – Sean McKendrick.

 

Sean had been working in the role in an interim capacity since May last year and would take on the role on a permanent basis.  Having worked with young people for more than three decades, Sean brought a huge amount of experience and passion to the role, with a proven track record for delivering in local government and improving the lives and life chances of children and young people. 

 

Decision

 

The Sub Committee agrees that, subject to consultation with the Executive in accordance with Annex 1 of the Officer Employment Procedure Rules and the acceptance by the successful candidate, Sean is appointed as Strategic Director (Children’s and Education Services) at the job evaluated grade for the role (SS5).
