Application for a Street Trader Consent for Mobile Catering Unit located at Floats Road opposite Duerrs Jams

Minutes:

The Committee heard from the Applicant for a Street Trading Licence for a mobile catering unit to be located at Floats Road, near Dallimore Road, Manchester. The Applicant produced photographs to the Committee to indicate where it was proposed that the unit would be stationed. She claimed that the unit would not be visible to the objectors café and as such would not affect his passing trade. The Applicant further explained that she would be careful to clean up any litter at the end of the day.

An objector from a local business attended and advised the Committee that granting the Application would seriously affect his business and he proceeded to detail other food establishments, including two street traders that were already trading in the locality. He advised that Greggs bakery would further impact upon his business when they opened a new store.

The Committee considered at length the Application but felt that the proposed location for the mobile catering unit was not suitable and to grant it would cause obstruction on the street and traffic congestion. It felt that it also could prove a danger to users of the street.

It was also satisfied that there was also an abundance of food outlets in the location that more than satisfied the demands of the general public.

Decision

To refuse to grant the application.
